Oil Painting Workshop: Impressionist Lilacs

 

Step into the world of impressionism with our 3-hour oil painting workshop, inspired by the delicate beauty of lilacs in full bloom. Perfect for artists of all skill levels, this workshop explores the vibrant colors, light, and dynamic movement of these flowers using expressive techniques such as brushstrokes, finger painting, and impasto. Guided by a skilled instructor, you’ll learn classical oil painting methods alongside the impressionist style to create your own masterpiece.

What to Expect

  1. Welcome & Setup (30 minutes):
    Begin with an introduction to the tools and materials, along with a primer on impressionist techniques. Our tutor will walk you through preparing your canvas and mixing a palette that captures the soft, radiant hues of lilacs.
  2. Guided Painting (1 hour):
    Dive into the creative process as you layer colors, experiment with texture, and build your composition. Emphasis will be placed on rendering light and shadow to bring your lilac bouquet to life with energy and expression.
  3. Coffee Break (20 minutes):
    Take a relaxing pause to recharge with complimentary coffee, tea, and light snacks. Connect with fellow participants and share insights from your creative journey so far.
  4. Finishing Touches & Wrap-Up (1 hour):
    Add the final details to your painting, refining your work into a vibrant and polished piece. Receive personalized feedback and tips to enhance your skills beyond the workshop.

Materials & Preparation

  • Participants must bring their own art supplies. Studio easels will be provided, but brushes, paints, and canvases will not.
  • A complete list of required materials is available here.
  • Plan to transport your wet painting home safely. We recommend bringing a portable box or carrier.

Required Materials

  • A full set of materials(without canvas) can be purchased here
  • set of paints (the optimal set can be purchased here)
  • oil brushes (only for oil paints, they must be quite tough) #4, #8, #12-14 (samples are here  and here)
  • palette knife (sample is here)
  • palette  (it can be any palette you like or an old used canvas)
  • canvas for oil painting  size 50 x 60 (smaller sizes possible but uncomfortable) here
  • oil (linseed or any for thinning the paint) here
  • thinner (can be provided by the tutor, but if you have your special thinner better to bring it with you) here 
  • old unnecessary fabric or paper towels for wiping brushes
  • clothes for painting (oil paints do not wash off. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty)
  • portable box for wet canvas (we are not allowed to leave wet paintings at the studio, so you need something to pick up your painting)

Optional Materials

You are welcome to bring alternative mediums, such as acrylics, pastels, or watercolors. However, the instructor’s guidance and workshop techniques are tailored for oil painting, and results cannot be guaranteed with other mediums.
